Macau Jewelry and Watch Fair

Expos bring international exhibitors.  They go back and tell people.  Word of mouth.  Cotai will soon be an international destination.

From the ID press release:

The Israeli Diamond Industry will participate in full force at the Macau Jewelry and Watch Fair, which will take place for the first time on January 10-13, 2008 at the Cotai Strip Convention and Exhibition Center at the Venetian Macao.

Over 50 Israeli companies will be exhibiting at the show, with 37 companies taking part in the Israel Diamond Pavilion hosted by the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI). The show is expected to attract Chinese buyers, and the unprecedented Israeli participation in this show is due to the great interest of the Israeli Diamond Industry in reaching out to the Chinese market.

IDI will be the official host of the new Fair’s opening reception on January 10, 2008, together with CMP, the show’s organizers.

GalaxyWorld Resort ups ante on Cotai Strip

Galaxy appears to be getting ready to one-up its neighbor on the Cotai Strip – the Venetian Macao.  Galaxy’s GalaxyWorld Resort appears to have gotten approval for its huge expansion plans on Cotai according to the South China Morning Post:

“Galaxy Entertainment Group yesterday unveiled plans for 12 casino hotels and serviced apartment blocks totalling 8,500 rooms on Macau’s Cotai Strip, a project expected to cost more than US$3 billion.

Galaxy said its 4.7 million square foot plot next to Las Vegas Sands Corp’s newly opened Venetian complex would be developed to include 1.4 million sqft of retail space – twice the size of Pacific Place – and 750,000 sqft of convention and meeting space, equal to the total rentable area of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.

The company’s planned 700,000 sqft of total casino space on Cotai compares with the Venetian’s 546,000 sqft gaming floor, the world’s largest single casino. “

Venetian opens Cotai Strip

The day has finally arrived. The Venetian Macao on the Cotai Strip has opened with 850 gaming tables and 4,100 slot machines on floors as big as three football fields. With 3,000 hotel rooms, a theatre, a 15,000-seat stadium and 350 shops, the complex aims to turn Macao from a purely gambling venue to an entertainment destination.  Next on deck for Las Vegas Sands is the opening of their Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

Venetian Cotai Strip opening almost upon us

With the opening of the Cotai Strip’s Venetian Macao almost upon us, the Las Vegas Sun wrote a very good article about Macao and the rest of the Cotai Strip.

Speaking about the change the Cotai Strip will have on Macao, Las Vegas Sands said:

“The Venetian represents that first massive step in changing Macau from primarily a day-trip market focused on Hong Kong and Guangdong Province to a full-fledged international, multi-day, multifaceted destination resort.”

But dont worry Las Vegas. As great as the Cotai Strip will be:

“It’ll never match the critical mass in Las Vegas. You’ll have certainly a much better product there in Macau and we’ll do extraordinarily well, but I don’t think it’ll affect Las Vegas at all. It won’t even hiccup”

Cotai Strip gets Tiffany’s

Tiffany’s announced today that they will open a 2,500 square foot shop in the Venetian Macao’s Grand Canal Shoppes on the Cotai Strip.  The store is scheduled to open in August 2007.

Describing the new store, the company stated:

“The new TIFFANY & CO. stores will feature stylish details of the jeweler’s famous New York flagship store, including ebonized Makore and mahogany woods and brushed stainless steel showcases, which will be arrayed with renowned TIFFANY & CO. collections. Customers will be greeted by the jeweler’s celebrated diamonds in dazzling engagement rings; vibrant and colorful gemstones; the signature designs of Elsa Peretti, Paloma Picasso, Jean Schlumberger and Frank Gehry; as well as fashion and men’s jewelry, watches, accessories and gifts.”

Tiffany’s is just one of the many luxury retail outlets that will open on the Cotai Strip over the coming years.  Eventually, the Cotai Strip will rival Hong Kong as Asia’s premier shopping destination.
